Alexander Stirling Chapter, NSDAR

Located in St. Francisville, Louisiana
Chapter Meetings - Third Wednesday or Saturday of most months
Meeting Time - 10:30 a.m.

The Alexander Stirling Chapter, NSDAR, is named after Alexander Stirling who was born in 1753 in Scotland and died on January 8, 1808, in West Feliciana Parish. He is buried in a family cemetery located at Beechwood Plantation. Stirling served in the American Revolutionary War in the First Company, Third Battalion of the First Regiment of Grenadiers under the command of Don Enrique White. The unit served under Bernardo de Galvez during the Battle of Baton Rouge.

Members of the Alexander Stirling Chapter, NSDAR, enjoy working with schools across three parishes of east and west Feliciana and Pointe Coupee, encouraging students to participate in Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) programs, various DAR essay and art contests, as well as the DAR Good Citizens contest. The Louisiana Veterans Home is located in Jackson, Louisiana,  and members spend time throughout the year visiting with veterans.

In addition to volunteering in our local schools, veterans homes, and community, members recently took part in a project benefiting a chapter in Paradise, California. The chapter purchased a United States Flag that was flown over the U.S. Capitol and presented it to the Chico Chapter, NSDAR, in California as a gesture of solidarity and support while the town is rebuilding after the devastating wildfire. The flag now flies over their town hall. A fundraising effort was also held to purchase flags to fly on the main street. When the fire started, the town had just displayed its flags to celebrate Veterans Day on the main street, and all but 80 were destroyed.
