Vieux Carre' Chapter, NSDAR

Located in New Orleans, Louisiana
Chapter Meetings - First Saturday of most months
Meeting Time - Noon

The Vieux Carre Chapter, NSDAR, was organized in 1956 especially for career women. Saturday meetings were chosen for this reason. The organizing chapter regent was Camilla Mays Frank. Over the years many working and non-working women have contributed their time and talents to chapter projects.

Vieux Carre chapter members serve in the veterans hospitals, plant butterfly gardens, and work on genealogical records. Some of their activities include:

  • the Veterans Administration (VA) Stand Down in October for homeless veterans

  • Wreaths Across America at the Chalmette Cemetery

  • sending coupons to military families

  • annual Christmas party and present drive for a veterans families in need

In 2020, the chapter’s DAR National Day of Service project provided 63 books to the Little Free Libraries in our communities.  Our members and their children participated.  The 2021 project will be cleaning the entry to the Valence Street Cemetery.

This chapter has many "seasoned members" who make a point of helping new members  become involved in DAR. Nearly 16% of the chapter's members are Juniors who bring energy and vitality to the chapter's projects.
